Greetings, welcome to London caricaturist Mr Sketchum's homemade site.

I'm the person with a clipboard at the party ~ but I'm not

there overseeing the taxi queue!

I entertain guests at gatherings by sketching eye-popping cartoon portraits at lightning speed. I'm a London-based "events caricaturist", but am perfectly happy to travel to parties the length & breadth of the UK, and occasionally beyond. Mr Sketchum is of course a 'stage name' (sorry to shatter your illusions!) - Alfie Deliss being the real (and more plausible) one.

"Many thanks for coming last night. Everyone thought it was a brilliant idea and Kim was really happy and touched to get such a great memento of her ten years at Hilton."

Alexandra Dumoulin, Hilton Group (18/2/15)

"That's the best cara...caractcha I've ever of all the caractchas I've ever had!"
Jamie Redknapp (bless him!), Wentworth Golf Club

It's great to have the opportunity to introduce creative humour into situations where people are being sociable and "at their best". I'm fortunate in that guests easily 'get' what I'm up to, take to it, and play along. It's thought-provoking, generates a buzz, raises smiles, and creates fond memories.

Every masterpiece is given away absolutely free. Sketching people you've never met before in about minus one minute flat is demanding enough without having to get money out them as well.

"Hi Alfie ~ I'm just back from holidays. I wanted to thank you for working at our party, you went down a storm and I shall bear you in mind for any of our future events."

Amie Nedwell, BMB, Covent Garden 12/1/15

"Give her a body like Baywatch - and a face like Crimewatch!!"

Anonymous (bellowed at me by a fellow in the crowd at a Warburtons Bakery staff event)

How's that for a textbook "pub joke"?! However, I never do gratuitous hatchet-jobs, and also my sketches are there to please and amuse, rather than punish. In any event I always mindfully favour the ladies! It really is the gentlemen, especially feisty types, whose friends are already cackling and giggling at them before I've even started to sketch, who can come out looking...naturally amusing.

"Just a quick email to say many thanks for attending our boat party last night – you were a great hit with the crowd - and you didn't get thrown into the Thames after all!"

Katie Hollis-Wood, Totum (19/9/14)

Pens and paper are my only real "props", meaning my performance is unobtrusive and adaptable. I arrive primed and ready to 'mix and mingle' over drinks, go round the tables during dinners, and find spots where individuals, couples and groups can come to be sketched.

The sketches are done on heavy (200gsm) A4 paper, and presented in clear top and side opening sleeves. If preferred I can up or downscale to A6 (postcard size), A5 (half that of A4), or A3 (twice that of A4).

I also provide the optional service of pre-printing logos/graphics and special inscriptions on each sheet of paper I use. This is ideal for leaving a lasting impression ~ to distinguish a brand, underline the ethos of a campaign, mark an occasion, or simply to add that personal touch.

~ The Science Bit ~

Combining farce with a good pinch of realism, my cartoons range from sympathetic "thumbnail sketches", to mischievous parodies (some might say travesties), to genuinely funny, rip-roaring caricatures. At every event I carefully tailor my approach according to how the subjects and situations present themselves.

I focus in on key traits only, and in no time achieve true likenesses that contain the "audacity of simplicity", capturing and emphasising those unique fleeting quirky expressions and characteristic attitudes for which we know each other so well.

"You should think about doing it for a living!"

Johnny Ball, genial mathematical Legend, Grosvenor Hse Pk Ln.

~ My main three types of event: ~

"Mr Sketchum came to sketch at our wedding reception. He got along with everyone so well that some of our guests thought that he was a friend of ours!"
~ John and Sue, Chelmsford

My wedding caricatures capture sides to you that even the best wedding photographs simply can’t!

At weddings I can inject fun into any "lulls" that occur between proceedings, such as when the photographs are being taken ~ I mix and mingle during drinks, circulate table-to-table in the midst of the wedding breakfast during & between courses, after the speeches (sometimes discretely during them as well, depending on the situation), and the evening part of the reception is always fun.

Just when and how to make use of me is up to you, but you can be sure your guests will leave with personal souvenirs of the day and smiles. Be they all-out lavish extravaganzas or more intimate celebrations (watch out - corny line coming up...) ~ London caricaturist Mr Sketchum brings big smiles to big days!

"What you see through your glasses isn't reality dude."
Anonymous (written in my sketchbook whilst I was away)

My sketches are frequently positively hilarious and can provoke fits of laughter, setting tongues wagging as they are shown around, and in turn setting a cheery upbeat tone for the party. What better way to break down barriers and bring everyone together?

Those already acquainted will mercilessly rib one another over how peculiar they look, or will coo at how appealingly they've come out, and those previously strangers connect as they swap playful comments on the drawings. It's a treat to bring about such bonhomie.

"Everyone loved your "works of art". We were really impressed with the likenesses, and a few of them made the rounds to howls of laughter.

Geoff, Brighton (18/7/14)

Corporate events aren't stuffy at all! Corporate guests, delegates and the like, have as good a sense of humour as you or I, and I can promise you, know how to enjoy themselves.

I can function effectively as a "marketing device" by helping your company create memorable events which simultaneously entertain, reflect well on your organisation, and generate awareness of what it has to offer.

My persona is self-possessed, neat, and personable with a flair for funny - perfect for relaxed business-focussed gatherings - meaning happy clients and new contacts for you.

"Hey Alfie, thanks for completing the colour caricature – it looks brilliant and Shital is thrilled with it too! Thanks again, Jess"

"Thanks so much for your work last evening. So much great feedback! And, I haven’t laughed so much in ages!! Was lovely meeting you and hopefully we’ll see you at a future event."

Paula Storey, International Property, Torus (6/6/13)

"Oh how sweet! And you got my best side!"

Andrew Logan (sketched from behind), jewellery sale at his home

"Dear Alfie ~ First let me thank you for making the party a success. I greatly enjoyed the many caricatures you made in a marathon session. I've passed your name to a few who asked, as they like your work. I attach a scan of Henry VIII. Thanks again, see you again. Regards, Chris"

Moonlighting from study at Chelsea College of Art, my first job was a trial by fire at a frenetic Bachelor & Spinster Ball. Although bamboozled by the brouhaha amidst the cacophonous mêlée of potted Débs and their dashing Delights, I still somehow managed to produce worthy sketches, and soon enough *ahem* my personality shone through.

If you're concerned your event may be too far for me to get to, please don't be. Mainly thought of as a mere London events caricaturist™ (pah!), I'm however certainly no stranger to county-to-county trekking. Equipped with a sense of humour, a Thermos™, a railcard and pens & paper, in the past sixteen years I've travelled to and from events the length & breadth of Old Blighty many, many zillions of times.

"It's a tough job ~ but somebody's got to do it!"

"Find a job you love and you'll never have to work again."

Confucius (551-479 BC)

"Alfie, massive thank you again for yesterday, you are fantastic!!! Everybody loved you!! Charlotte xx (27/7/14)
